60 Years
With pledges from church members and a generous donation, blueprints were made to build the church, school, administrative offices and a basement meeting hall with a kitchen. The groundbreaking was held on October 14, 1961. The first Mass at the new church was held on Sunday, July 29, 1962. The school opened in September 1962 with more than 70 students. Three sisters from the Order of St. Francis in Nevada oversaw the school. The sisters of St. Francis served as teachers and principals for many years along with lay teachers. Around 1975 the sisters were moved to another location to prepare students elsewhere. The school’s continued success comes from dedicated teachers, school families and church members. In 2007-2008 a new kitchen and Parish Hall, also known as the school cafeteria, was added to the south side of the school/church. In the summer of 2008, the basement which had previously served as the Parish Hall and school cafeteria was remodeled. The remodel added four classrooms, a library and a computer lab. More recently the computer lab was changed to an art room since today’s students each
have their own Chromebook to be used within the classroom. A beautiful new church was also built and
dedicated in 2010. The old church was converted to a gymnasium for the school and allows for PE and
assemblies today.
Holy Rosary School has been an integral part of the Clinton community for sixty years. To celebrate the great achievement, there were many fun events throughout the year. First, an all-school reunion was held with dinner and dancing. Many students from throughout the decades attending and enjoyed looking through old yearbooks and reminiscing. In February, during Catholic Schools Week, another festivity with bingo and a potluck. To wrap up the year there was a picnic and school carnival. The next goal, another sixty years!
